The Meaningless Paintings series was completed over the past few years, mostly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working with representational imagery is new to me. Previously I’ve worked in an abstract minimalist style, focusing on color, pattern, and texture.

These works incorporate imagery from “high” art to popular culture, from sports to science, to food, to tools and machines, to idyllic scenery — it’s all fair game. Choosing the images is intuitive, random, and fun. When a specific image speaks to me, that’s when I know it’s right. This work is for my sheer amusement.

I go out of my way to remove any sort of narrative, and yet that’s the first thing people see. There is no secret meaning. Anything can be related to anything if you try hard enough.
